FAQ
Answers before you go solar
Everything homeowners and businesses ask us about cost, installation, batteries, and looking after a system for the long run.
Getting started
Will solar work on my roof?
Most roofs facing south, east, or west work well. During the free survey we check orientation, shading, structure, and wiring, and tell you plainly if the numbers don't add up.
How do I get a quote?
Send us a recent energy bill and your address through the quote form. We prepare a first estimate from satellite imagery, then confirm it with a free on-site survey.
What size system do I need?
It depends on how much power you use and when. We size the system from your yearly consumption, roof space, and plans such as an electric car or heat pump.
Do I need planning permission?
Most rooftop systems on homes don't. Listed buildings, conservation areas, and some flat roofs can need approval, and we handle the application when they do.
Cost & financing
How much does a solar system cost?
A typical home system costs about the same as a small car, depending on size and whether you add a battery. Every quote shows a fixed price with no extras after the survey.
How long until it pays for itself?
Most of our home systems pay back in seven to ten years, then keep producing for another fifteen or more. Your quote shows the expected payback for your roof.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Every quote shows a cash price and a monthly option, and in many cases the monthly payment is lower than the savings on your bill.
Are there grants or incentives?
Incentives change often and vary by region. We check which schemes you qualify for, such as reduced tax rates or export payments, and include them in your proposal.
Does solar add value to my home?
Buyers increasingly look for lower running costs. A well-installed system with its paperwork and warranties in order usually makes a home more attractive to sell.
Installation
How long does installation take?
About six weeks from survey to switch-on. The installation itself takes one or two days for most homes, with the power off for a few hours.
Do I need to be at home?
Only at the start and the end of the install, so we can confirm the layout and show you the monitoring app. The crew needs access to the loft and the fuse board.
Will the panels damage my roof?
No. We use mounting systems approved for your roof type and seal every fixing. If a tile breaks during the work, we replace it before we leave.
Who connects the system to the grid?
Our electricians complete the connection and submit the grid notification for you, so you don't have to deal with the network operator.
Batteries & EV
Do I need a battery?
Not always. A battery pays off when you use most of your power in the evening, face peak tariffs, or want backup during outages. We model both options in your quote.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. We fit inverters that accept a battery, so adding one later is a half-day job without changing your panels.
Will a battery keep my power on in a blackout?
Only if the system is set up for backup. We can add a backup switch that keeps chosen circuits, such as the fridge and lights, running during an outage.
Can my panels charge an electric car?
Yes. A smart charger can send surplus solar power straight to your car during the day and switch to cheap night rates when the sun is down.
Maintenance & warranty
What maintenance do panels need?
Very little. We recommend an inspection every two years. The monitoring app alerts us to faults so we can fix them before they cost you output.
How long do solar panels last?
Panels keep producing for thirty years or more, slowly losing a little output each year. Inverters usually last ten to fifteen years and are simple to replace.
What warranties do I get?
Panels carry a 25-year performance warranty, inverters and batteries ten years, and our workmanship ten years. All of it is listed in your handover pack.
What happens on cloudy days?
Panels still produce on cloudy days, just less. Your system stays connected to the grid, so you never run short. Yearly output already accounts for typical weather.
Do I need to clean the panels?
Rain keeps most panels clean. If yours sit at a low angle or near dust and trees, we offer a cleaning visit with soft brushes and purified water.
