A primary school wanted to cut its energy costs and give pupils a real example of clean power. The buildings use most of their electricity during lessons, but the sports hall is rented out to local clubs every evening.
The challenge
Work could only happen during the summer holidays, so the whole project had to be finished in six weeks. The roofs are a mix of old and new buildings, and the school needed a clear plan for safety, access, and approvals before term ended.
The system we designed
We surveyed every roof in the spring, chose the three with the best structure and sun, and planned the work so the playground stayed open for summer clubs. A battery covers the evening hall bookings with power stored during the day.
- 210 panels, 85 kWp, across three roofs
- A 60 kWh battery in a fire-rated plant room
- A production screen in the main hall for teaching
- Remote monitoring with a monthly report for the governors
The result
The system was switched on a week before term started. It produces 82,000 kWh a year and covers about 60% of the school’s electricity, and the battery runs the sports hall on most weekday evenings.

“The pupils check the production screen in the hall every morning. The savings go straight back into the classrooms.”
